Description

Shichimi is a traditional Japanese spice blend that has been used in everyday cooking for centuries.

The most common version, shichimi togarashi, is similar to Kyo-shichimi, which is specific to the Kyoto region. This blend of spices has been popular in Japan since the Edo period, originating from traditional Chinese medicine, and was historically sold in herbalists’ shops throughout the country.

The blend’s notes of chilli, seaweed, citrus, pepper and other seeds will spice up your dishes, delight your taste buds and fill your body with its ancestral virtues.

Use:

The Kyo-shichimi 7-spice blend goes well with a wide variety of dishes, from simple to elaborate. It enhances the flavour of grilled and tartare dishes (fish and meat) and brings out the taste of raw, cooked or fermented vegetables. Sprinkle this seasoning on cold or stir-fried noodles or white rice, or add it to clear broth or miso paste for extra flavour.

Storage:

Store spices away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity.

Red chilli, mikan mandarin peel, white sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried aonori seaweed, sanshō pepper powder and hemp seeds.

Shelf life:

12 months in an airtight glass jar.
